Hello all, I'm trying to access my firewall (Windows Firewall) and change the settings on it to access my Nintendo WiFi router. My computer went in to be fixed last week, and they've changed the settings to Group Policies or something so I can turn it off and use the router.

According to the guide in that link, I should be able to access Group Policy settings through mmc. When I get into that and try to add the Group Policy Snap In (step 4), Group Policy does not appear. Is it under another heading in the menu, or is there some action I should take before I can find it? By the way, I'm using Windows XP. Thanks.How can I manage group policies to access my firewall?

Edit: I failed to mention that if you have Windows XP Home you will not be able to access the group policy editor because it is not included in Windows XP Home. It's only available in XP Pro. You can go to the control panel and open the ';Windows Firewall'; applet and from there you can edit rules/exceptions.How can I manage group policies to access my firewall?

How can u change the port settings on yahoo IM to make it work in a firewalled network like my work network?
My work network is protected by firewall and what not and I am unable to us Yahoo IM at work. I understand that if you change the port Nos u will be able to log into yahoo IM.what are the prot nos to be changed to and and please give step by step instructions.I am not an expert. I have Windows Vista and I'm running Windows Defender as my firewall. Every time I try to access Yahoo launchcast and play music on it, it just says ';connecting'; and I knew it was due to my firewall. After disabling my firewall, I can stream music now. WHY webcam does not work behind firewalls anymore...?
that is really annoying. earlier versions worked excellent behind firewalls, even two of them. Now these new versions does not work anymore. MSN and Skype works perfectly without changing firewall settings or opening extra ports which is security risk. What ports, how many of them needs to be opened...grrrr.. Yahoo sucks nowdays... even error reporting service does not work at all. ';failed to load error report to servers'; well no one can't make complains if it does not work.. very wise. Software firewall creates dymanic rules when launching Yahoo as long as application is running but hardware firewall does not. so that is the problem. MSN messenger was same kind earlier but Live version works perfectly behind firewall.. I think yahoo has gone step backwards with this..... can anyone tell me for real how and what ports are those, not any guessing and not only persons who use some leaking so called firewalls. It all depends on who you have as a firewall I know in Windows XP you can get into the settings threw the control panel not sure one Windows 2000. It wasn't as big as ME was.

How can I get into Yahoo! chat to work when it has not worked for me in over a year?
I have not been able to enter a chat room on Yahoo! in over a year and a half now. I have tried everything I can think of to get into Yahoo! chat with no sucess. I have changed my browswer settings, lowered my firewall settings, changed my connection preferences on Yahoo! Messenger, and contacted my IP provider. I didn't have problems getting into chat until I switched from dial-up to DSL. If anyone could give me an answer I what I should try, I'll listen. Going to Yahoo! help has not helped me that much so that option is out unless you can give me a mail address I can write them or a phone number to talk to an actual person.

This is very simple, ask yahoo to become your DSL provider,only if they will fix this problem. write them an email about it and see how nice it is going to work.

You def have viruses, adware, etc. Get Malawarebytes, Spybot, Adaware, and run them to scan and remove the junk. Then make sure you keep a vscan program such as AVG on your system and keep Windows firewall enabled. Also keep using Firefox and you should never have issues like this again.

How do I change my NAT settings to open?
I cannot connect to my friends Halo 3 games because it says I need to change my NAT setting. After an hour of searching how to change it to open I am still not able to find out how to do this.

i have windows xp. we scanned with spybot malwarebytes smitfraud ccleaner ad aware prob.
Ok so i got some viruses a few days ago and my brother appears to have removed or eliminated them but

This is the hard part...securing the router so your neighbors don't access it...
ONCE it's working...go to the internet explorer and in the www field...type in

you'll be prompted for a username and password...If its a linksys router
keep username blank and enter ADMIN for password...
then go to the wireless security field and enter a passphrase...WEP is good and 64 bit is fine...as long as it's secured....Once you put a passphrase in there it will generate 4 keys for you...which you should copy...then right click again...view available wireless networks...then connect...THIS TIME it should prompt you for the KEY that it generated for you...enter that twice and you should be good to go...The wireless network connection thing has got a big red x on it and 'not connected' suddenly - how do I fix pl?

The reason why your seeing this pop up when you connect to the internet is your web browser is asking your firewall for permission to initialize a new tcp connection. Your firewall doesn't have this set as an allowed action so it is giving you a nag/ warning pop up.

if you type 192.168.1.1 into Internet explorer you should get the log in screen, then type admin for the user and hit enter leave the password blank.
if that doesn't work try the name of the person that owns the router like you mom or dads name as the password, leaving the user as admin.
if that doesn't work reset the whole thing by unplugging it for 5 minuets, or sometimes there is a little button in a hole you need to push on the back, push that button for a while holding it in until the lights change on the router then pull the power to it while you are still pushing the button. that should wipe the router completely and you will need to reprogram everything.

My internet connection doesnt work even though its actually says connected!?
Ever since I installed Norton Internet Security on my Sony Viao laptop with Vista OS, my internet explorer and Mozilla have stopped working even though it says Im connected. After I uninstalled it and rebooted the computer, the only way to actually get it working again is to retype the WEP key every 15 minutes. After 15 min it will still say ';connected'; but Explorer and Mozilla will stop working. I have tried almost everything, changing Firewall settings, scanning my computer for viruses, repairing the connection (and everytime it says Windows was unable to solve the problem or a problem still exists). I have unplugged and replugged the routers, rebooted my laptop, and yet nothing has worked. I still have to retype the wireless key every 15 min. If anyone has had a similar problem, please tell me how to fix this. I am currently sharing this connection with 2 other laptops so maybe I have to change my internet security settings. Oh and I dont have any AntiVirus protection or anything like that and every time I click on a google-searched website, I am always redirected to other advertisement webpages and this too is really frustrating. Tiny personal firewall... is messing with torrents!??
i've been trying to download some torrents. i go a site, click on 'download torrent' and then save it, and then open it with utorrent.
it ends there - nothing else happens! nothing. nil. i first thought it was because there wasnt enough space. so i tried clearing it. but even then it didnt work. now i think the firewall's blocking it - so how do i change the firewall settings and allow utorrent to download?? i use a 'tiny personal firewall'

I have setup a Linksys VPN router at my office connected to a DSL modem (Bellsouth). My router has a static IP, and I want to get onto my office network from home using VPN. My office PC's are on a workgroup.
When I try to connect from home, using the Linksys VPN Client software, it seems to connect, but doesn't go any further after it says it is connecting to the network. when I look on my router interface, it shows me as logged into VPN. I was able to see my office LAN pc shared folders, but had to use ip addresses - host names wouldn't work?
Also, I had to disable my Mcafee firewall on the office computer I was trying to view shared folder's on in order to even ping it.
My guess is I need to change some firewall settings to prevent it from blocking VPN clients... I also need to somehow map ip my host names to ip addresses over vpn...

Thus denying the office outbound traffic bandwidth.

IF it is WINS or DNS then you need to modify the LINKSYS VPN connection to provide remote computers access to the WINS/DNS server. IF it is LMHOST then you need to take a copy of that file home and add it to your computer at home.

1. you can disable the fire wall by right clicking on the icon of your local area connection (the one at the bottom of the desktop near the computer's watch, and if it is not there go to Start--%26gt; Control Panel ---%26gt;network connection) and choose change firewall settings and then turn the firewall off. you can also choose the exception tab and then click on add button and then add your web cam's software to the list and click ok.

Why is it that my limewire is behind a firewall?

I need help changing settings on my netgear wireless router?
So I've been having trouble connecting my Wii to my wireless internet. I called Nintendo and they told me I needed to disable the firewall settings on my router and change the channel. I did that on the Belkin router that I had, but they ended up telling me that my router wasn't compatible with wii for some reason and that I should get a different router. So I went out and got a netgear router, and I typed

Well, the solution is simple.
You just need to go into the settings of your firewall and change the settings for your antivirus so that the firewall gives it access to the internet.

If you have Zone Alarm, then you do not need to run Windows Firewall. Zone Alarm is much better than windows firewall, and it is best that you let zone alarm do all the work instead of fiddling with Windows Firewall again. So don't worry about Windows Firewall as Zone Alarm is already doing all the heavy lifting!

If you computer comes up clean after running your resident security products, you may want to consider running a System File Checker (SFC). This can be run in Safe Mode should you prefer. To get into Safe Mode either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up. To run SFC, close all applications such as Office, Messenger, Email, etc, and go to:
- Start
- Run
- Type in sfc /scannow (include the space before the '; / ';)
What SFC does is that it attempts to fix or replace critical operating system files. Sometimes this can be done without the installation disk, however it may prompt you for the appropriate operating system installation disk. If that is the case, then you know that you definitely have file corruption or something missing. Insert the disk if prompted. Also you should run SFC using the Administrator account.
If you have the Vista operating system, the steps are a bit different due to the UAC. See the link below.

You probably still have malware that is interfering with your operating system's security. First try and eradicate the malware by following the steps below. Afterwards you can try and run SFC.
Firstly update and run your anti-virus product. You can also run a free online scan as well as some malware can actually corrupt or disable your resident security products. Here are a few online scans you can run:

Third, after cleaning your system, disable System Restore, reboot and re-enable System Restore when you log back on. This will clear the malware that may still be lurking in System Restore, which could be reinstalled should you need to rollback at some point. Additionally, a reboot may be required to complete the malware removal process.
Lastly, you may also want to install the following tool. It is free and requires you to check for and enable updates manually once a week or so. It uses no system resources.

If you computer comes up clean after running your resident security products, you may want to consider running a System File Checker (SFC). This can be run in Safe Mode should you prefer. To get into Safe Mode either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up. To run SFC, close all applications such as Office, Messenger, Email, etc, and go to:
- Start
- Run
- Type in sfc /scannow (include the space before the '; / ';)
What SFC does is that it attempts to fix or replace critical operating system files. Sometimes this can be done without the installation disk, however it may prompt you for the appropriate operating system installation disk. If that is the case, then you know that you definitely have file corruption or something missing. Insert the disk if prompted. Also you should run SFC using the Administrator account.
If you have the Vista operating system, the steps are a bit different due to the UAC. See the link below.

Don't surf, play games or do anything while SFC runs. After it is completed, reboot your computer.
One of the major culprits in missing or corrupt operating system files is running a registry cleaner or optimizer. They can flag important shared files for deletion or cleanup. Another cause is malware.

you need to check all your firewalls. If you have google or AOL, or msn they all have their own blockers, go in and allow popups to the site or game you are wanting and if that doesn't work , what I have done in the past when I couldn't get in a game I would hold down (ctrl ) button and click what you are wanting to entering a room or even a table... hope this has helped

The correct default address for most routers is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
Read the manual carefully before trying again.

Click Start -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; Windows Firewall* -%26gt; Exceptions.
